Solar Charge Controllers
Solar charge controllers regulate the energy transferred from a PV array to a battery bank. Correct controller selection protects the charging process, matches the PV input to the battery architecture and provides the operating information required to manage an independent solar system. The current TommaTech range published by CW Enerji offers two clear solutions. The SCC-MPPT 3KW model is a 60 A MPPT controller for 12 V, 24 V or 48 V battery systems. It is intended for installations that benefit from maximum power point tracking, a higher PV operating-voltage window and PV-array capacities up to 800 W, 1600 W or 3200 W according to system voltage. The TT4524AU is a 45 A PWM controller for 12 V or 24 V systems, combining a dynamic LCD, programmable load-control modes, energy statistics and dual USB output in a compact format. MPPT and PWM controllers should not be selected only by charging-current rating. The designer must also check the battery voltage and chemistry, maximum PV open-circuit voltage, operating-voltage window, permitted PV-array power, expected charging current, load-output requirements, ambient conditions and enclosure protection. Final PV-string voltage must remain within the selected controller's limits under the full site temperature range.
