TommaTech Modular V Series 51.2V 280Ah Lithium Battery

The TommaTech Modular V Series 51.2V 280Ah is a high-capacity low-voltage LiFePO4 battery designed to provide significantly more storage capacity per individual enclosure than the 5.22kWh G2 products.

Each BTR-P-51.2V-280Ah battery provides 280Ah capacity and a published energy value of 14,336Wh.

The manufacturer specifies a recommended charge and discharge current of 100A and a maximum charge and discharge current of 140A under defined operating conditions.

An integrated BMS supervises battery operation and provides protection against overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, short circuit and excessive temperature.

Up to 16 identical batteries may be configured in parallel. The user manual describes battery addressing and communication arrangements for multi-battery systems.

The vertical enclosure measures 450 × 250 × 990mm and weighs approximately 119kg, creating a substantially different installation architecture from the smaller G2 battery family.

Because of its higher capacity per enclosure, the V Series is particularly relevant where large low-voltage storage capacity is required. However, battery quantity must still be determined from both energy demand and inverter current requirements.

Technical Architecture

The V Series uses a vertically packaged LFP battery system with integrated BMS and addressing controls for parallel operation.

In multi-battery systems, communication between batteries and the inverter is coordinated through the battery communication architecture using CAN or RS485.

 

How It Works

A compatible inverter/charger provides controlled charging energy to the battery.

During charging and discharging, the BMS monitors the battery and protects operation within defined current, voltage and temperature limits.

When multiple batteries are connected in parallel, the required current is distributed between the battery units according to the system architecture.

 

Engineering and Selection Notes

The V Series manual provides a useful example for an 11kW inverter.

At 51.2V, an 11kW load represents approximately 214A battery-side current before considering further system details.

A single V Series battery has a published maximum discharge current of 140A.

Therefore, inverter power can require more than one battery even when one battery provides enough kWh capacity.

  • cable sizing
  • DC protection
  • inverter compatibility separately.

System capacity

Do not publish the repeated “up to 80kWh” statement as the V Series maximum system capacity.

The same official documentation specifies 14.336kWh per unit and maximum 16 parallel units, making the copied 80kWh statement internally inconsistent.

Manufacturer confirmation required for maximum approved system capacity.

Cycle life

The datasheet gives 8,000 cycles under its defined test conditions.

Other test sections within V-Series documentation use different cycling conditions.

Cycle-life claims must therefore always be accompanied by test-condition context.
